19 Sept 2021: Seventeen (17) migrant domestic workers out of the 65 complainants sought the assistance of the Mission For Migrant Workers (MFMW) today. According to them, they sent door to door boxes via CARGOFLEX HONG KONG LIMITED as early as July 2021. The company promised that it will only take 3- 4 weeks to reach their families.
It has been more than 3 months now but the company told the complainants everytime they talked to the staff in HK that their boxes are already scheduled for uploading. One of the complainants said that the office in Manila told her that they cannot release the boxes because Cargoflex in HK failed to pay them.
One of the complainants shared that the box was intended for her mother’s 84 birthday.
Another complainant said that the beneficiary of her box already passed away.
Edwina Antonio of MFMW accompanied the 12 migrant domestic workers out of the 17 to the Philippine Consulate. ConGen Raly Tejada endorsed the case to ATN Consul Robert Quintin. They were instructed to fill out an affidavit and all of them wish to get back their boxes if they have not been shipped to the Philippines. If the boxes are already in the Philippines, deliver their boxes to their families as soon as possible. Consul Bob assured the complainants that PCG will attend to their cases.
All the complainants said that “it took them months to save and stock up all the items for their families only to wait for months”.
“The pandemic limits our movement so we cannot visit our families. Despite being away from our families, the door to door boxes is our way of reaching out to them to show our love and affection.”
